BEAR Power Supplies and RoHS

RoHS compliance and use with no-lead wave solder lines

RoHS e2

All BEAR power supplies manufactured as of April 15, 2006 are be lead-free and RoHS compliant. This includes our full line of standard and custom supplies. Our standard encapsulated models will carry a "RoHS e2" mark on the label.

BEAR power converters are distinctive in that our supplies are actually "lead free," and not just RoHS compliant.

What is the difference?

RoHS compliant means that the amount of lead and other hazardous substances in a component is less than a specified number of parts per million.

At BEAR, we have found that some components we buy that are labeled "RoHS compliant" actually contain lead on the pins. The amount of lead in the pins is an acceptable percentage of the part under RoHS standards, and the part can therefore be labeled RoHS compliant.  However, it can present major problems for a systems manufacturer, as any amount of lead in the pins can contaminate your entire lead-free wave solder operation.

Recognizing this problem, BEAR goes beyond RoHS compliance. We actually test incoming components for lead using our XRF spectrometer.

You can be assured that BEAR supplies not only meet the requirements of RoHS, but are safe for use in lead-free manufacturing lines.
